At SearchEngineOptimisation.co.uk we understand the importance of managing your online reputation, and can offer your business expert guidance. Negative comments and reviews are the usual culprits for damaging reputation and whilst we all know the best way is to respond as efficiently and calmly as possible or get any negative posts removed, sometimes it is not always possible. If you are unable to get negative content eliminated or there are sites which insist on posting more negative points of view then fear not, as there is still light at the end of the tunnel.
Online reputation management is the process of monitoring and controlling any negative information or comments which could damage the perception of your business, and ultimately your profits. There are a lot of things you can do to prevent negative comments, yet unfortunately you cannot eliminate them altogether. If you are finding yourself falling victim to negative comments that are damaging your reputation then it is important that you do take action, otherwise the situation will only get worse.
Search engine results pages (SERPs) are one of the worst places to have negative content appear. Imagine the scenario; a potential new customer, or even an existing one, is browsing the web looking for your business or industry in general. They put a search word or phrase into their desired search engine and the first thing that appears is an appalling review regarding bad service or poor product quality which was a result of your company. If this is the first link a user sees then they are unlikely to go any further, and if they do see your website later within the search results, they are highly unlikely to click on it.
This is where internet reputation management comes in. Nothing can stop these pages from ranking, yet what the reputation management system does is it ensures that wherever the negativity ranks, any positive links and pages rank higher. Ideally you would work to get your actual website ranking higher, as high as possible in fact. Once a user has clicked on to your site they become a potential new customer. So as long as the service or products which they receive are up to standard, there is no need for them to search further within the results.
The best way to do this is to post comments which are positive on your own web pages, in particular blog pages. You can also go further and find or post positive content on other pages which are unbiased towards either your own website or the one portraying the negative comments. Some web pages will agree to include links to positive pages if it looks as though they are offering readers a rounded picture of the discussion in hand.
It is also a good idea to guest blog or get as many links to positive sites out there as possible. Even commenting back on negative comments and including a link can work. If you are still having trouble then a very effective technique is to search out trusted domains and include your content on these sites.
